My favorite photos from Italy - colosseum, Rome

Gallery: My Favorite Pictures of Italy

Italy is a lovable oddball.

The county has a seriously bumpy economy (especially in the south) Catholicism versus “loose morals” fighting through every piece of its history, a claim to fame for most hand-gestures used without actually speaking sign language, and is famous as one of the most beautiful and tasty countries in the world.

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t have Italy on their bucket list. I’ve been there twice, and am totally looking forward to a future round three.

While in Italy I hit up

  • Venice
  • The train station in Milan
  • Florence
  • Rome
  • Pompeii
  • The Amalfi Coast (Sorrento, Naples, Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello)

The Amalfi Coast will always stick out as the highlight, but Florence was somewhere I could see actually living as well.

Hope you enjoy the photos!

Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy

Welcome to Amalfi, where there are houses on top of the houses on top of the houses.

Colosseum , Rome

The colosseum in Rome

Under the Colosseum, Rome

Inside the colosseum, under the arena.

Gypsy, Italy

A gypsy begging for money in Rome. She wasn’t crippled, but used to cain for effect.

Statue of Mary, Amalfi Coast, Italy

A statue of Mary along the Amalfi Coast, with an old olive oil mill in the background.

Canal in Venice, Italy

After wandering away from the crowded, more well-known parts of Venice, I stopped along an empty walkway, on a bridge. When you get away from the tourism, Venice is a bit of a ghost town now.

Street Market, Florence, Italy

A market in Florence with ancient domed buildings in the background. Florence is famous for it’s leather goods.

Amalfi Coast, Italy

The beautiful Amalfi Coast. You can travel here year-round and the weather is pretty much this. *Le sigh

I've had gelato in Italy, pizza in Egypt, crepes in Paris, and gruyere in Gruyere. I've rafted rivers, climbed canyons, been lost in foreign cities - and foreign museums :P - and road trip whenever I get the chance. I bring my camera and dog wherever I can, always looking for the next adventure, then I write about it here. Follow along and say hi!
